Fall 2008 I'm back on the road this fall, but short roads, since it's hard to fit in travel with teaching, parenting...writing. But if you'll be near UW Washington County in November (11/13, 7 pm), or up in Madison for the Wisconsin Book Festival (10/18, 10 am), I'd love to see you. In the meantime, keep writing; you may just win "email of the month", as did the Canadian below...

Albertans, please be aware that I've asked my publisher to suspend its Western Canada air drop marketing plan immediately, out of respect for the environment.

Spring/Summer 2008 It may, in fact, be spring in Milwaukee--we're not quite sure, after enduring the second snowiest winter ever here. Check back in a few months. In any case, I'm blaming for the snow for not being snappier with my updating of the What's New area. Here's what's been uncovered in the thaw:

  • Milwaukee, Mandolins and Me: The Friends of the Milwaukee Public Library have invited me to join them for a reading July 17 in the Central Library's beautiful rotunda (that's a picture of it at left). The rotunda alone is worth a visit, but the real star attraction of the evening is the Milwaukee Mandolin Orchestra (the nation's oldest, not that I know of any others), who will also be on hand. Contact the Friends for tickets. They're not expensive, and support an amazing Midwest resource.
  • All Saints named a Target Bookmarked Book Club Breakout Book: a lot of B's in there, I know. But we're all very excited, my family especially, since they're all Target aficionados from way back. If your Target is like ours (and doesn't it have to be?) you'll find the books between the socks and the PlayStations--and my book in particular on the endcap right behind the first one. Near the top, thank God, since my last name begins with C.
  • But...you'll have to spot the NEW cover to fiind it. That's right, even though the hardback had a beautiful cover (I thought so, anyway), the paperback has a new cover, and I have to admit...it's sexy.
  • Finally, Esquire invited me to take part in their "Napkin Fiction" project, which was great fun--and very educational. 1. Napkins aren't large. 2. I have horrible handwriting. (Luckily, they transcribed.)
